Change of charges against the driver accused of hitting a 9-year-old boy from Medina

MEDINA, Ohio (WOIO) – A driver accused of hitting a nine-year-old Medina boy in March will appear in court Monday morning for a plea change.

Shyrene Michelle Vargas is charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian turning left on a green light, no valid driver’s license and driving under suspension. and driving under FRA suspension (financial responsibility).

The judge appointed her a public defender and ordered her to return to court on April 10.

Medina police said that on March 19 around 8:30 a.m., Vargas hit Landon McKay while he was crossing the street with his brother on his way to school.

Landon was sent to Cleveland Clinic Medina Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

As a result of the accident, the city of Medina is considering possible safety improvements at the city center square.

Vargas is expected to appear again in Medina Municipal Court at 8:45 a.m
