Police confirmed that an arrest was made following the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “At around 2.40pm on Saturday, May 18, 2024, we received reports of a two-car accident on the A78 Skelmorlie near Shore Road.

“Emergency services attended and an 88-year-old woman was taken to Crosshouse Hospital for treatment.

“The female driver was charged with a traffic offense.”
